Now that I am working from home, I have been researching for a desk to sit against my 30″ living room window. I also wanted the desk to be good quality, reasonably priced and fit with my modern/ minimalist style.
After searching far and wide for a minimalist computer desk, I came across the Ikea Nordkisa dressing table. The difficulty in finding this desk (dressing table) is Ikea categorizes it under “Dressing Tables” instead of “Desks and Computer Desks”.
Size
The Nordkisa desk has a surprisingly small footprint at 29 7/8 ” wide, 18 1/2 ” deep, and 31 1/8 ” tall. The height from floor to bottom of drawer is 26 1/8″. Common office chairs have no trouble fitting this desk. The top of the desk is deep and wide enough to fit a monitor, keyboard and mouse. My 17″ laptop easily fits and leaves space for an external mouse, cell phone, coffee cup and notepad. When I’m done, my laptop perfectly fits on the enclosed shelf and everything else fits nicely in the drawer.
Looks
I love the look and style of Ikea. The Nordkisa desk designed by L Hilland and J Karlsson, is no exception. The design is modern with clean lines and minimalist look. The desk is made out of bamboo and feels solid.
Features
The desk provides two storage areas. On the left is an open shelf, perfect for a laptop and the right provides a drawer, for everything else. An interesting feature of the drawer is you can access from both the front and back. I like the idea but it is only useful if you place the desk away from a wall. The legs of the desk have risers so you can fine tune the height or if you need to level on an uneven surface.
Assembly
Like all Ikea furniture, assembly initially looks intimidating but once you look at the directions you realize it is a piece of cake. There are less then 12 steps. The hardware includes a hex key allen wrench for most of the fastening. The final step requires a Phillips-head screwdriver. Unlike most inexpensive furniture, this desk looks like it could be easily disassembled without damage.

Research on this purchase consisted of visits to Target, Ikea, Blu Dot, and West Elm. I also read several online reviews and conducted several searches before making my purchase. Now that I have been using my Ikea Nordkisa desk for the past two months, I could not be happier with my decision.
